Summer Dyslexia Screening Event for Rising 1st & 2nd Graders
Date: Saturday July 18, 2026| Location: 3919 Blenheim Blvd Suite 83C Fairfax, VA 22030
Is Your Child Ready for the Next School Year?
Early identification is the single most important factor in a child’s reading success. The window for the most effective reading intervention is during early elementary school.
A brief summer screening can provide clear answers and a customized action plan before the fall semester if your child:
-
Has a family history of reading challenges or dyslexia.
-
Avoids reading or becomes easily frustrated.
-
Struggles to sound out simple words.
-
Guesses at words based on the first letter rather than decoding them.
-
Or, if you simply aren't sure and are seeking some peace of mind.

What to Expect: Your 45-Minute Private Appointment
We have designed this event to be easy and low stress for both you and your child. This is a welcoming, individualized appointment with clinicians who have decades of experience with children and literacy.
1. Parent Input: You'll be asked to provide information about your child's early language development, struggles at home, and family history. Integrating your everyday observations is what makes this screening so accurate.
2. The Screening (30 Minutes) On the testing day, an experienced school psychologist will take your child to a quiet room to complete the Test of Dyslexia Screener (TOD-S) and CORE Phonics Survey. We present this to the children as quick, engaging "word puzzles." These tools will allow us to assess your child's risk for dyslexia and/or early literacy challenges, and to give you targeted information on where skill development should begin.
3. The Clinical Feedback (15 Minutes) While your child picks out a prize and relaxes, you will sit down privately with a clinician for some verbal feedback about your child's performance.
4. The Roadmap & Results: By the following week, we will send you a written summary of the results and recommendations for next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a formal diagnosis of dyslexia? No. A screening is a highly accurate "temperature check" to identify risk levels. It cannot be used to officially diagnose a learning disability or guarantee an IEP at school. If your child flags as "High Risk," a comprehensive evaluation will be recommended.
Are there any slots left? If you click the booking button and do not see any available times, the event is currently filled. We may have cancellations or future opportunities. If interested, please join our waitlist.
