Counseling and Assessment Practice of Fairfax

Assessment

We provide comprehensive psychoeducational testing to assess the cognitive, academic and emotional functioning of children, adolescents, and young adults. Our testing helps identify learning disorders, attention difficulties, and emotional/behavioral difficulties that may be impacting the individual's academic or personal life. We also conduct testing for AAP, gifted, and private school.

Counseling

We offer counseling services to children, adolescents, and young adults. Our trained and experienced therapists provide a safe and supportive environment to help clients work through a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, behavioral and emotional regulation challenges. Parents are involved in the process.

Consultation

We provide consultation services to parents and caregivers. We help identify and address learning and behavioral issues in school and home settings through a supportive problem solving approach.

Coaching

We offer coaching for executive functioning difficulties in children and adolescents.

Therapy Sessions
What Makes Us Unique

Our practitioners have decades of experience working in public and private schools, colleges and mental health settings with children, families and young adults. We value all aspects of an individual's wellbeing across the contexts in which they live, work, and play.  We consider issues from an ecological perspective.  In other words, we view presenting concerns as an interplay of person and environment, which informs our work and treatment.

More specifically, many of our practitioners are trained as school psychologists. As a result, we are knowledgeable about school law, policies and procedures. We have participated in countless local screening, eligibility, and IEP meetings at schools.  We have developed and implemented behavioral and academic intervention plans both at school and at home.  We offer our services to assist families and children in navigating these waters. Additionally, most of our practitioners have extensive experience with gifted assessment through the Cognitive Assessment Program at George Mason University.

Furthermore, our partners have taught, conducted research, and trained undergraduates and graduate students in psychology at universities nationally.  Consequently, we are committed to the creation and delivery of best practices for children and families.  Additionally, we understand the expectations for students in college and graduate school, and have facilitated students' transitions from a university setting to the world of work.
