Each of us faces challenges from time to time as our lives unfold, whether as a child, parent or young adult.
-
Children experience pressure to meet expectations in many ways, including academic, social, and emotional.
-
As parents, we question if we are parenting our children effectively:
-
Are we handling their behavioral challenges successfully?
-
Could we better assist our children with their learning needs?
-
Are we facilitating the development of their social, academic and emotional skills?
-
-
As young adults, we may wonder if we are meeting the changing demands of college or the world of work. Am I approaching life's tasks as effectively as possible?
What makes our practice unique
Our practitioners have decades of experience working in public and private schools, colleges and mental health settings with children, families and young adults. We value all aspects of an individual's wellbeing across the contexts in which they live, work, and play. We consider issues from an ecological perspective. In other words, we view presenting concerns as an interplay of person and environment, which informs our work and treatment.
More specifically, many of our practitioners are trained as school psychologists. As a result, we are knowledgeable about school law, policies and procedures. We have participated in countless local screening, eligibility, and IEP meetings at schools. We have developed and implemented behavioral and academic intervention plans both at school and at home. We offer our services to assist families and children in navigating these waters. Additionally, all of our practitioners have extensive experience with gifted assessment through the Cognitive Assessment Program at George Mason University.
Furthermore, our partners have taught, conducted research, and trained undergraduates and graduate students in psychology at universities nationally. Consequently, we are committed to the creation and delivery of best practices for children and families. Additionally, we understand the expectations for students in college and graduate school, and have facilitated students' transitions from a unversity setting to the world of work.
